The Cool and Organic Answer.

More than often, I find the skin on my face going red after washes. The most common reason would be because of the blood being circulated to the surface during a lathered wash. For me, the redness tends to irritate and linger, as if it needs to cool down. Image Skincare’s Ormedic balancing soothing gel masque is like a cold drink of water for your face. It’s refreshing Organic Aloe Vera, Arnica Montana and licorice help reduce redness and other signs of irritation. This ultra-gentle gel masque is perfect for highly reactive, rosacea or acneic skin types.

Don’t compromise with irritated skin, refresh it!

Renewal.

What would be the perfect way to bring dull skin to life?  Using my daily cleanser cleanses my skin’s surface, but i often wonder if it removes below the surface. Chances are our skin may look clean, but is really pale and lifeless, since dead cells dull the pink glow of healthy skin. Frequently, tiny wrinkles and flakes become noticeable. If dead skin cells are not properly removed, the skin is afflicted with cell build-up. For a smooth and glowing complexion, I recommend using Image Skincare’s Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Masque. With it’s Hydrating, Vitamin C, it gently exfoliates dead skin with enzymes and adds essential anti-oxidants and minerals to improve skin health. The best part, it is perfect for all skin types and rosacea.

Give you and your face a moment of peace!

Through the eyes of students.

On January 21st, I received my first chance to interview two students who attend Skin works School of Advanced Skincare. We talked about what have learned, and what they have enjoyed in their schooling process. By the end of the interviews, I learned a few skin tips myself!

Meet Kat:

What is your favorite part about Esthetics?
Kat:
My favorite thing to do on clients is facials, I like making them feel relaxed and at ease.

Can you share any stories or experiences you’ve had during your time here at Skin Works?
Kat:
I get a great education here at Skin Works. The environment is very peaceful, and I like that our approach can be very holistic with chakra balancing.

Meet Megan:

What is your favorite skincare product?
Megan:
I love The Vital C Hydrating Enzyme mask from the Image Skincare line. It is very hydrating, and calming to the skin. It also exfoliates the skin.

What advice would you give to those who want to go into Esthetics?
Megan:
You have to dedicate yourself 100%. Enjoying what you do is very important. Patience is key, you have to be patient with yourself and your clients.

What common issue with skin have you seen with clients?
Megan:
Stripping their skin of natural oils is very common. They also, suffer from acne and hyper pigmentation. Many clients worry about not knowing how to put nutrients back into their skin. They need to remember that our skin has a 28 day cycle. This is a new skin resting period, before it renews itself from previous treatments. It takes patience when it comes to skin.

On the rise.

I recently interviewed two students who attend Skin Works School of Advanced Skincare. I got an in depth look into what they learn, and how they dedicate their time into their passion.

Stay tuned for more student insights!

Meet Kayelle:

What are some Positive Personal Achievements you have gained
Kayelle:
I have built friendships that have allowed strong teamwork ethic. My confidence is higher, and has allowed me to talk to strangers in different situations. I have gained a lot of patience. Being patient with your client is just as important as being patient with yourself. This allows you to think before you speak, and follow through with your duties smoothly. I am more aware of my health. Not just my skin, but my body as a whole.

What are you planning to do after you graduate?
Kayelle:
I want to start off doing waxing in a salon. I want to eventually work my way up into working for a dermatologist or in a surgeon’s office.

Meet Sarah:

What are some personal accomplishments you have made during your education here at Skin Works?
Sarah:
Coming to school here has helped me to address better communication with different people, in different settings. I have also become more punctual, being on time is a good habit to keep. I have become confident about doing things correctly and knowing I am not limited with what I can do. I have gained so much knowledge, but one in particular thing I learned about my health is that the mind, body and spirit work in sync, and you must take care of each one closely.

What is one task that has helped you come out of your comfort zone?
Sarah:
Doing a Brazilian wax, because it is a very personal procedure. Once you become repetitive with it, it becomes a natural task.

What are you planning to do after you graduate?
Sarah:
I want to work in a dermatologist’s office. I think it’s very important that esthetician’s get recognition for their important role in skincare.

Read my lips.

As someone who loves wearing lipstick, I have a low tolerance for dry lips. One of the worst moments in personal beauty history is when my lipstick no longer glides on smoothly, but becomes interrupted by flaky skin. Not only does it feel horrible, but the sight of it looks messy and painful. The only pains that tend to linger, are the hours I spend searching for the cure in chapstick form. To save ourselves from mindless spending, we need to take into consideration what our lips really need. Our skin gets dehydrated, as if it needs a drink of water. Jane Iredale’s Lip Drink balm is the perfect sip of hydration full of vitamin C & E. It’s Macadamia oil base has edible zinc oxide which hold an SPF of 15. The flavors consist of lemon and orange oils, which make for a more fresh and moister set of lips. It’s safe to say, that it works wonders underneath my lipstick. My own little piece of lip balm heaven!

Treat your lips to flavorful hydration!

A sight for sore eyes.

The eyes are beautiful features. Those, in which we see the beauty all around us. We bring out the color of our eyes, with eye shadows. Let’s face it, we love to accentuate our eyes. Why wouldn’t we?  They’re a main focus during people interaction. It should be a priority to take care of our eyes. Let me ask you this,  How many of you take your makeup off before bed? Do you remove your makeup without damaging the skin around your eyes? If you’re anything like me, i used to buy makeup remover wipes that i’d have to rigorously scrub to get everything off . I was in high hopes that after all that scrubbing, i’d be clear of eye makeup. Turns out, i was only left with smeared residue, sore eyes, and red skin. No one should have to see that view in the mirror. It’s time for a gentle solution, when approaching makeup removal. Dermalogica’s Soothing Eye Makeup Remover is an oil and alcohol free gel. It’s gentle formula instantly dissolves all traces of makeup, leaving no room for stubborn scrubbing.

Treat your eyes with respect, leaving them in smooth condition!

Second skin is “In”.

There are many brands of foundations, and their advertisements are everywhere to be seen. They tell us how their products will make our skin glow, provide great coverage, and could even make us look younger. Before choosing a foundation, we should ask ourselves a few questions. Are the ingredients good for my skin? Does the color match my skin? does it have natural coverage? I have been currently using Jane Irdale’s Liquid Minerals Foundation. This unique formula comes in form of beads, which hold liposomes that release large amounts of active ingredients into the skin. A few benefits I’ve found with this foundation, is my skin is able to breathe. It’s light texture sits comfortably on my skin, and leaves smooth coverage. My favorite part is that my skin tone is even, and my pores have minimized. For me, this is proof that you can win, with your skin!

No more hiding your skin away, give your skin’s natural radiance the spotlight!

Oily skin needs Moisture!?

The answer is Yes!

Most of us who live with oily skin tend to stride away from lotions and moisturizers, in fear of adding extra moisture to acne prone skin. Who needs more breakouts, right? It’s obvious that washing your face daily removes unwanted dirt and oil, but without added moisture after cleansing, our bodies naturally produce more oil to replace what has been removed. With fears aside, oily skin meets moisture in this Oil-Free Daily Defense Matte Moisturizer by Image Skincare. Not only does it absorb stubborn oil, but it leaves skin with a matte finish. It is also safe to say, even Mr. Winter Sun won’t be an issue, with it’s SPF 30  and free radical scavengers to protect against environmental exposures. Who’s in fear now?

Repeat after me…. Moisture is BALANCE.

Give your skin the happy balance it deserves!

Winter’s idea of a sun-kissed glow

The winter season takes a toll on everyone’s body. For example, it aches the muscles, dries out the skin, making it itch and flake off.  For me, my skin starts to crack and lose color. The summer sun has gone, and has taken our skin’s glow. The one thing we want is to look healthy and well. Jane Iredale’s Tantasia Self  Tanner and Bronzer builds a gradual, natural tan on your face and body within three days, which you can control & customize. It’s sensitive formula also provides skin with natural hydration. Say hello to happy skin, sun-kissed all year!

New Year, New YOU!

Happy New Year Everyone! I am T’keya, your new Beauty Blogger. I’m so excited to have this opportunity to work with such a prestigious school with welcoming staff and helpful students. Also, to hear feedback from customers about their visits to skinworks.

With the new year right at our fingertips, I’ve been thinking of resolutions that would actually be promising. One thing about myself that came to mind was my skin. I’ll admit, my skin and I have frequent battles, whether it’s oily or breaking out. Most times, I feel defeated. My hopeful beauty resolution is to drink more water. The oldest rule in the book, and the best habit to form! I know I speak for a lot of us when I say we could drink more water in our daily lives. Well it’s never too late to start! That being said, with new water bottle in hand, I’m on my way to a more hydrated and clearer complexion!

I’d love to hear some of your beauty resolutions. Give me some feedback!
